Donation Rules (Under BC Local Elections Rules)

1. To make a campaign donation, you must:
a) Be a resident of British Columbia, and
b) Be either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
Corporations, businesses, unions, and organizations cannot make contributions.
2. In 2026, each eligible individual may contribute up to $1,429.70 per campaign. Restore Burnaby (RBA) is participating in two separate campaigns in the 2026 local elections:
a) Burnaby City Council and Mayor Campaign – Maximum contribution: $1,429.70 (This total includes all contributions to RBA and all RBA City Council candidates.)
b) Burnaby School Trustee Campaign – Maximum contribution: $1,429.70 (This total includes all contributions to RBA and all RBA School Trustee candidates.)
3. Anonymous contributions are allowed only if they are $50 or less and are truly anonymous (for example, cash placed in a donation box at an event). Contributions made directly to RBA or a candidate cannot be anonymous.
4. If you contribute to more than one RBA campaign, you must specify which campaign each contribution is intended for.
5. Contributions must come from your own personal funds. You cannot give money to someone else to contribute on your behalf.
6. Under BC local election rules, RBA cannot issue official tax receipts for tax-deductible purposes.
7. Contributions of $100 or more will be publicly disclosed by Elections BC, including the donor’s name and contribution amount, in its Financial Reports and Political Contributions System.
8. Restore Burnaby (RBA) reserves the right to refuse or return any contribution.
